About

Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi.  It is most common in areas where there are poor standards of hygiene and where food and water supplies are vulnerable to contamination. It is thought that there are 21 million cases each year of typhoid and the majority of cases occur in Asia, Africa and Latin/South America.

Typhoid fever causes abdominal pain, loss of appetite, constipation or diarrhoea, and can lead to intestinal perforation and meningitis which can be fatal.
